Regenerative Agriculture Course: Build Climate-Resilient Farming Systems

Farmers today face mounting challenges from climate change, including erratic rainfall, droughts, floods, and rising temperatures that threaten yields and food security. Conventional farming practices often worsen the problem by depleting soils, reducing biodiversity, and increasing greenhouse gas emissions. With global food demand rising, these pressures risk deepening hunger and poverty if not addressed through sustainable solutions.

Regenerative agriculture provides a practical pathway to resilience. By restoring soil health, enhancing biodiversity, and improving water cycles, it strengthens farm productivity while mitigating climate impacts. This course equips farmers and extension agents with the knowledge and skills to adopt regenerative practices, ensuring more reliable harvests, healthier ecosystems, and stronger community capacity to adapt to climateshocks. It is a timely intervention to secure food systems and livelihoods in the face of growing uncertainty.

Skills You Will Acquire

What will the participant learn?

  • Regenerate soils through composting, mulching, cover cropping, and biofertilizers
  • Manage crops agroecologically by intercropping, rotating crops, and applying integrated pest management (IPM)
  • Conserve water and steward landscapes with rainwater harvesting, contour farming, and erosion control
  • Enhance biodiversity by integrating trees, restoring habitats, and supporting pollinator
  • Adapt to climate change using drought-resilient crops, sequestering carbon, and assessing climate risks

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be ableto:

  • Understand the core principles of regenerative agriculture and how they differ from conventional approaches.
  • Apply soil health management practices that build organic matter and improve fertility.
  • Design diversified cropping systems that integrate agroecology, agroforestry, and climate-resilient practices.
  • Promote water conservation and landscape restoration techniques.
  • Strengthen farmer-to-farmer extension networks for scaling regenerative practices.
  • Develop action plans tailored to local contexts for sustainable adoption.

Who Can Participate?

This course is designed for a wide range of individuals and professionals who are interested in sustainable land-use, conflict resolution, and circular economy practices. Participants may include:

  • Farmers and Pastoralists who are seeking practical strategies to coexist peacefully and maximize shared natural resources.
  • Community Leaders and Elders who are involved in mediation and grassroots conflict resolution within farming and pastoralist communities.
  • Local Government Officials and Planners who are responsible for land-use planning, natural resource management, and community development.
  • Environmental and Agricultural Extension Officers who are looking to support sustainable practices and community resilience.
  • NGO and CSO Representatives who are working on peacebuilding, environmental sustainability, or rural development projects.
